Master Gardeners Meeting

August 24, 2017

 

 

Meeting was called to order by Al Winkeler at 7:32 pm.

Secretary’s Report- Minutes from last meeting are available on line.  Tom Nagle made a motion that we approve minutes as read, was seconded by Patti Kolek.  Vote was unanimous in favor.

Treasurer’s Report- Joe Walker states we currently have a bank balance of $11,105.37. Mary Medina made a motion that we approve treasurer’s report, was seconded by Laura Steimel.  Vote was unanimous in favor.

MU Extension Report- Rich Hoormann- Was not present for meeting.

Committee Reports

  • Speaker- Val Mertz- She was working on speaker for September Meeting. We will instead have party for Rich Hoormann. Val is needing nomination for the Paul Hendricks Award. Should be about leadership, education, and service. Please include why you are nominating the person. All nominations should be in by the October 1, 2017.

  • Membership- Waneta Parmenter –Several members from the MG Class of 2016 and 2017 were awarded the Master Gardener Badges and Certificates. Congratulations.

  • Hortline- Patti Kolek - We are slowing down a bit and will still be covering in office next month.  Thank everyone for signing up. We have one more date for the Farmers Market in St. Charles and 3 people have signed up. She will send reminder emails. She state the St. Charles Farmers Market is open through October. If anyone is interested in doing it let her know. Patti explained how the quizzes worked for meeting. You print off of Monday Master Gardener Email.  Look up the MU reference for the quiz. Bring to meeting. Check answers to make sure you passed and you get 0.50 educational hours doing this. They also advised how to log in hours.

  • Education- Mary Medina- Will have meeting about Dig In prior to September Meeting.

  • Demonstration Gardens- Victoria Galley/Laura Steimel.  We will be scheduling a meeting prior to October Master Gardener Meeting. Look for the email. We are not approving any additional spending for the gardens. We will be working on next year budget at the meeting. If something comes up contact one of us.

  • Greenhouse- Amy Templer/ Cindy Platzer. Not present at meeting.

 

New Business

  • 2018 Master Garden Class will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 through May 9, 2018. Mary Carey will be main facilitators for class. We will have sign-up sheet at meeting for class room facilitators for each class. We will be setting up table and chairs and putting away.

  • A letter was sent to Master Gardeners requesting speaker for church group. We have a volunteer and was supplied letter to follow up. To be on March 18, 2018 at 1.

  • We need nominations for 2 steering committee member. A sign-up sheet was passed around. If interested contact Al Winkeler.

 

Old Business

  • We will not be putting up donated pergola until next year. Funds are an issue at this point.

  • Cindy Richardson still looking for volunteers to help with Boy Scout Merit badges.

 

Monarch Madness will be September 9, 2017.  You would sign up on line if interested.

  • Rich Hoormann will be offering classed to public and Master Gardeners. Cost is $10.00 and register with Extension Office prior to classes. Public classes are Thursday September 7, 14, and 21. 6:30 pm to 8:00pm. Master Gardeners only which are advanced education hours are to be on October 5, 17, and 19. 6:00 pm to 9:00pm.

NOTE: September Meeting will be at extension on September 28, 2017.
