Plant Sale/ Steering Committee Special Meeting Minutes

 

Friday, 1 May 2020

 

Attendees:  Kevin Minard, Jan Carron, Rebekah Davis, Justin Keay, Cindy Platzer, Mary Medina

 

Call to Order:  Justin called the meeting to order at 3:02 PM

 

The Steering Committee met via Zoom to discuss plans regarding plant sales due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. 

 

      Justin reported That the state and St Charles county stay at home orders will be lifted by 4 May.  The University has released guidelines regarding MGs working in demo gardens, Justin confirmed with the Extension Council that St Charles MGs will be allowed to follow the campus guidelines on the Extension Office property.  The guidelines stipulate scheduling no more than one person or one family unit is allowed to work in the demo gardens at a time through 15 May.  Cindy and Justin will be coordinating on what that scheduling will look like.  The group agreed priority will be to schedule work in the Pantry, Compost, Mowing, and Annual Gardens the first two weeks.

 

     After all the state and stay at home orders have been lifted, the master Gardeners can have plant sales given they are following safety protocols.  A plant sale utilizing pre-orders and scheduling pick up times would now be a viable option in regards to regulations.  Money transactions will also be allowed.  Without the Plant Sale Committee present to advise, the group agreed that a sale would now be feasible but it’s unknown if selling to the public will happen at this time.  Justin will converse with Marsha Brown to confirm how the Plant Sale Committee is willing to proceed.

 

     Elizabeth Nelson, Justin’s St Charles County Library contact, said the library agreed to promote our new Zoom MG Speakers Series by placing the events on their calendars.  These weekly MG classes have been moved to Wednesday evenings.  The Education Committee is scheduled to meet and discuss identifying topics, speakers, if any help is needed to facilitate presentations and/or how to use Zoom.  Cindy mentioned sending an email out through the distribution list to remind people about our MU publications and Hort Line.  The group discussed putting together a newsletter for that distribution list.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 4:07 PM
