Master Gardeners Meeting

April 27, 2017

 

 

Call to Order

Meeting was called to order by Al Winkeler.

​

Secretary’s Report- Minutes from last meeting are available on line and copies available at meeting.  Mary Carey made a motion that we approve minutes as read, was seconded by Joe Walker.  Vote was unanimous in favor

​

Treasurer’s Report- Joe Walker states we currently have a bank balance of (see treasurer for amount).

​

MU Extension Report- Rich Hoormann- Passed around sign up for MG project working with 4-H and Boys and Girls Club of O’Fallon.  Rich is looking for help next week to trim up right side of entry to extension for visibility when pulling out. Rich will also be working on retaining walls with Craig Morton. Contact either if interested in helping.

Committee Reports

  • Meetings- Val Mertz –Speakers are set up for the year.

  • Membership- Waneta Parmenter –Al Winkeler present badges to Suzanne Morgan and Glenda Duffy.   

  • Hortline- Patti Kolek –We still need volunteers. Contact Patti.

  • Education- Mary Medina- Big Plant Sale, April 29, 2017. Set up for plant sale will be Friday at noon. Thanks to everyone who helped. Over 7500 plants.

  • Demonstration Gardens- Mary Carey. Gardens are looking good. Thanks to every one for their help.

  • Greenhouse- Evelyn Franks – Thanked everyone for their help. Watering will continue for one more week after plant sale.

 

 

New Business

  • Plant Sale Saturday. Going to rain. Set up at 12:00.

  • ​

  • First alternative meeting will be on May 25, 2017 at Broemmelsiek Park. Meet at Visitor Center at 6:00 pm. Come early to look around.  Directions-From Highway 40/61, exit at the WingHaven Boulevard (Highway DD) interchange and go south on Highway DD for approximately 4 miles and turn right into the park entrance. An additional entrance is located on Wilson Road for the Dog Park and small fishing lake.

  • It was put to vote to Master Gardeners when to have business portion of monthly meeting. It will go back to being after speaker.

Old Business

  • The juvenile Community Garden sent letter of thanks for donation of plants.

  • Advance Training. Soils Class presented by Rich Hoormann on May 16, 2017. 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Sign Up Opportunities

  • Saturday, May 6 – Garden Expo at Fort Zumwalt Park 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Contact Al Winkeler or Laura Steimel if interested.

  • Thursday, May 11- Girl Scout Tour of Garden. Tour starts at 5:30 pm. Show up if you want to help.

  • Saturday, June 3- St. Charles Farmers Market. First Saturday of each month. Contact Patti Kolek if interested.

  • Tuesday, June 13- History Day of First Capital -2 hours shifts. Contact Mary Medina.
