Master Gardeners Meeting

Call to Order

Meeting was called to order by Sharon Hedges who introduced new President of Master Gardeners Steering Committee Al Winkeler. Al Winkeler introduced the rest of Steering Committee: Vice President Craig Morton, Treasurer Joe Walker, and Secretary Laura Steimel. He also introduced Mary Medina- Education, Mary Carey- Demo Garden Coordinator, Val Mertz-Meetings, Patti Kolek, not present, Hortline, Evelyn Franks- Greenhouse, Waneta Parmenter- membership.

Secretary’s Report- Minutes from last meeting are available on line and copies available at meeting. All prior minutes were approved by all.

Treasurer’s Report- Joe Walker advised we currently have a balance in account of (See treasurer for amount).

Coordinator’s Rich Hoormann January Update

  • Both St. Charles and Lake St. Louis Farmers Market interested in working with extension and Master Gardeners.

  • Rich welcomed MG class of 2016, 22 interns and MG class of 2017, 27 students.

  • Hortline Training date to TBD in March. Volunteer and share your knowledge. If interested contact Patti Kolek.

  • Advanced classed coming up: Pesticide Application Technology Training, March 16, 6-9 PM

IPM Garden 15, 6-9 PM

               There will not be a cost for the forst classes. 

  • Boy Scouts requesting assistants on working on badges. If interested in helping contact Rich.

  • We are still going to assist AM Vets on their Victory Garden. More to come when meeting scheduled.

Committee Reports

  • Meetings- Val Mertz –Has speakers for both February and March. Contact her with any ideas.

  • Membership- Waneta Parmenter –Awards for volunteer hours were given out.  She advised of hours needed to maintain Master Gardener status. . Be sure to log ours. Need to be in by end of December to count for 2017.

  • Hortline- Patti Kolek –Not present. Bonnie Winkeler spoke on her behalf and advised we are still working line from home. Will be back in office sometime in March. Need volunteers. Contact Patti if interested. .

  • Education- Mary Medina- Upcoming dates of events:

Fall Plant Sale September 30, 2017.

We will not be doing Lawn Chair Tuesday or Dig In this year. We will be working on Demonstrations for Farmers Market. Any new ideas contact Mary.

  • Demonstration Gardens- Mary Carey. She had all Garden leads stand up and introduce themselves and what garden they have. Requesting volunteers for everyone. Look for meetings in MG Monday newsletter.

  • Greenhouse- Evelyn Franks – Startup will be in March.  Watch you email if you signed up.

 

New Business

  • Al Winkeler presented MG Presidents plaque for Steering Committee. Will be hung up soon.

  • Vice President Craig Morton presented possible having some of our monthly meetings at St. Charles County Parks. He presented 3 parks for this year.  A show of hands was taken to see MG were interested. Suggestions passed. More details to come when plans are completed.
