Steering Committee Minutes

Minute                                                                             Date:  June 9, 2017

 

 

Call to order

  • Al Winkeler called to order the regular meeting of the Master Gardeners Steering Committee     at 9:04 AM on June 9, 2017.

Attendance

  • In attendance: Al Winkeler, Joe Walker, Mary Carey, Laura Steimel, and Craig Morton., MU           Extension Specialist Rich Hoormann was absent. Master Gardeners Mary Medina and Del Moeller were also present.       

 

Secretary’s Report

  • All members having read the minutes of the May 12, 2017 meeting, it was moved by Joe Walker and seconded by Mary Carey that the minutes be approved as submitted.  Vote was unanimous in favor to approve. 

Treasury Report 

  • Current bank account balance( See treasurer for amount).  Please note that we have (See treasurer for amount) set aside for greenhouse capital and (see treasurer for amount) for 2018 plant sale. That leaves a balance of (See treasurer for amount) to spend which include the budget for Demonstration Gardens. It was motion by Laura Steimel and seconded by Mary Carey that the Treasurer's Report be accepted as presented.  Vote was unanimous in favor to approve.                                                          

MU Extension Specialist- Rich Hoormann

  • Rich will be setting up MG Training Class for 2018. Steering Committee will need to responsible for facilitating since Rich will not be with us than.

  • Note on pergola, once decision is made on where to put it, the Extension Council will have to approve.

Committee Reports

  • Speakers – Val Mertz. No report. Speakers are set for remainder of year.

  • Hortline- Patti Kolek.  Nothing new. Please make sure you sign up to work.

  • Membership-Waneta Parmenter.  Nothing new at this time.

  • Education- Mary Medina. We will be planning Dig-In for February 2018 with Keynote Speaker. It will be held at St. Charles Community College. Will be a bigger affair. More to come on this.

  • Demonstrations Gardens- Mary Carey.  Garden Leads be sure to turn any and all receipts for garden expenses. We thinking of having Garden Leads advise on their gardens at the monthly MG meetings. More to come on this.

  • Greenhouse –Marsha Brown.  Still working on replacement for Evelyn. More to come on this.  Discussed replacing greenhouse covering. Issue was tabled at this time.

Old Business

  • St. Charles Farmers Market started. First one went well.  

  • No update at time of meeting on Barnhart Church group tour. Called later same day. Their tour will June 24, 2017 at 2:30 pm. Volunteers needed. Contact Laura Steimel.

  • Pesticide Drop off was a success.

  • First Meeting in the Park was discussed. Craig Morton sent Thank you letter on behalf of Master Gardeners.  Everyone thought it went well.

New Business

  • Foundation Council approved funds for Parking Lot Extension. No details yet.

  • Program for volunteers in Garden. They should check in with Mary Carey or other leads. We still need to work on this. Make sure everyone is getting help.

  • Craig Morton and Crew picked up pergola. Thanks for hard work. Will be planning on where to put.

  • A reminder of Wacko MG Garden Competition. Judges and prizes were discussed. Will be at next MG meeting.

  • Marsha Brown had plant sale meeting with growers and is working on setting up plant sale. More to come on this.

  • We received a thank you letter from the Crisis Nursery for the plant donation.

  • We will be presenting suggestion on possible change to paths at the demonstrations gardens at the next MG meeting.  Issue being would chips are not too handicap accessible.  More on this issue at meeting. .

Adjournment

  • A motion was made by Mary Carey and seconded by Craig Morton to adjourn.  All approved.
