Join Master Gardeners “In the Garden” this winter

The St Charles County Master Gardeners are offering Saturday classes to the public this winter, for a jump-start on the gardening season. Experienced Master Gardeners will provide a wealth of information about vegetable and flower gardening, garden tools, and growing in raised beds or containers.

The three, one-day-a-month, sessions begin in January, 2024.

On January 27 begins with first steps for new garden beds: Aspiring gardeners can learn how to avoid common mistakes by planning their gardens to meet their goals. Topics include soil, light, and water requirements for successful garden design. On the same day, a discussion on propagation will cover how, where, and when to start your new plants from seed.

On February 24, gardening tools and tool maintenance will be presented, followed by a class on the benefits and basics of container gardening.

Finally, on March 23, attendees will learn how to amend their garden soil in layers for better growing in the ground in one class, and see a demonstration of raised bed construction for growing above it in the other.

Two classes are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon on each Saturday, and the price of $20 covers both classes. Online registration will be separate for each date, allowing attendees to enjoy one, two, or all three Saturdays, depending on their needs and interests. Weather allowing, the classes will be held in person, at the Missouri University Extension, on Brown Road in St. Peters. Visit the Master Gardeners website for further details:
