Volunteer Opportunities

In addition to time spent directly supporting Master Gardener activities, Master Gardeners can volunteer throughout the community providing a variety of services.

There are three requirements that must be met for outside volunteer opportunities:

  • The Master Gardener must be providing the service for free

  • The service must be related to horticultural education

  • The Master Gardener must be clearly identified as a representative of University Extension in that the recipient of the service knows you are a Master Gardener

Examples of activities that qualify:

  • Assistance in designing gardens or landscapes for public institutions: libraries, churches, schools, parks or other government buildings

  • Acting as a docent at parks or gardens

  • Assistance in booths at garden related events; fairs, civic events, farmers markets, etc

  • Guidance to individuals or groups concerning horticultural problem
